About Dr. Jones

Cornelius Jones comes from humble beginnings, has overcome much adversity, and is a great example of hard work and dedication. He was born in Grenada, MS, and grew up with his four siblings in an impoverished, high-crime community. He spent his teenage years in Atlanta, GA, and after dropping out of high school, he attended Schenck Job Corps in Brevard, NC, before transferring to the Jacobs Creeks Job Corps in Bristol, TN, where he earned his GED and learned a trade in brick masonry.

He enlisted in the United States Navy on October 13, 2000, following the USS Cole bombing. He started his naval career in Great Lakes, IL, on October 26, 2000.

Throughout his military career, he served in several leadership capacities in special duties assignments. As a former military leader, he learned the importance of discipline, teamwork, and mission-orientation. Those experiences shaped his leadership approach, emphasizing accountability, strategic decision-making, and a commitment to achieving results under pressure. He brings passion and experience, having dedicated his life to service.

In preparation for reintegrating into civilian life, he prioritized continuing his education during and after his military career. He has since completed multiple graduate programs and post-graduate programs, earning the title Dr. Jones.

Throughout his professional career in psychological services and mental health, he has served in state and county behavioral health leadership roles. He published critical PTSD research, implemented a pilot program at a state hospital, and developed a veteran reintegration program. Dr. Jones is a subject matter expert in both crisis management and trauma. He has the knowledge and experience to help develop policies, critical program resources, and support for human and social service agencies.

Although he's never been elected to public office, he has served in an appointed position and been an executive board member on multiple organizations throughout the country. He has helped strengthen and develop community-based programs that support individuals and families across multiple states.

He is not the traditional candidate, and he is committed to expanding opportunities for every resident. As a nonpartisan candidate, his focus remains on the people of Nevada rather than on a political party.

As Lieutenant Governor, he will work to promote economic development, strengthen communities, and ensure Nevada remains a place where families and businesses can thrive.
