About Dr. Jones

Dr. Cornelius Jones comes from humble beginnings, has overcome much adversity, and is a great example of resilience, hard work, and dedication. He was born in Grenada, MS. He spent his teenage years in Atlanta, GA, and after dropping out of high school, he attended Jacobs Creeks Job Corps in Bristol, TN, where he earned his GED and a certificate in brick masonry. He worked as a brick mason journeyman for a couple of years before enlisting in the United States Navy on October 13, 2000.

Throughout his military career, he served in several divisional, departmental, and command leadership capacities. As a former military leader, he learned the importance of discipline, teamwork, and mission-orientation. Those experiences shaped his leadership approach, emphasizing accountability, strategic decision-making, and a commitment to achieving results under pressure.

In preparation for reintegrating into civilian life, he prioritized continuing his education during and after his military career. He has since completed multiple graduate programs and post-graduate programs, earning the title Dr. Jones.

Throughout his professional career in psychological services and mental health, he has served in state and county behavioral health leadership roles. In 2023, he implemented a staff self-care pilot program at a state hospital, and in 2025, he developed a veteran reintegration program.

Dr. Jones is a subject matter expert in both trauma and veteran reintegration. He has the knowledge and experience to help develop policies, critical program resources, and support for human and social service agencies.

His published research on "The Mental and Emotional Cost of Incarceration" has been viewed more than 11,000 times and downloaded over 4,300 times, reflecting strong engagement from those working at the intersection of criminal justice, behavioral health, and public policy. His research informs a reform-driven approach that prioritizes rehabilitation, mental health, and safer communities.

He is not the traditional candidate, and he is committed to expanding opportunities for every resident. As a nonpartisan candidate, his focus remains on the people of Nevada rather than on a political party.

As Lieutenant Governor, he will work to promote economic development, strengthen communities, and ensure Nevada remains a place where families and businesses can thrive.
